"Choosing to start therapy is choosing to invest in yourself. It's a powerful journey of healing and self-discovery, where your struggles become stepping stones towards a more resilient and fulfilled life."
Sarah is a Licensed Professional Counselor in Illinois who believes everyone has the ability to overcome life’s challenges. She views asking for help and support as the first sign of strength. Sarah is passionate about helping clients work towards coping, self-care, and personal growth. She strives to create a safe and non-judgmental space to collaborate with clients, promoting their strengths and empowering them. She considers each client an expert in their own life and experiences, utilizing individual strengths to achieve a more balanced and fulfilling life.
Sarah collaborates with her clients to determine the best approach based on their goals and preferences. She is flexible, adjusting between a more structured or relaxed approach as needed. The approaches she uses most often are Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Person-Centered Therapy (PCT), and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT):
Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) aims at finding solutions in the present time. The foundation of SFBT is goal setting. Together, Sarah and her clients set realistic, identifiable goals and find solutions to achieve them.
Person-Centered Therapy (PCT) is a client-centered approach where the therapist strives to understand the client’s experience from their perspective. It is based on the belief that each person has the innate ability to change and grow, despite life experiences or struggles.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is an evidence-based approach that challenges negative thoughts and distortions in thinking. By identifying these patterns, Sarah works with clients to change them, improving feelings and behaviors.
Sarah is a graduate of National Louis University, where she earned her Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, summa cum laude, in 2021. She received her undergraduate degree in Science from Illinois State University, magna cum laude, in 2013.
Sarah has experience working with adults in a private practice setting, addressing issues such as anxiety, depression, life transitions, and more. She has extensive knowledge in helping teachers, men with anxiety, working parents with young children, adults struggling with self-esteem, and those entering therapy for the first time. During her graduate studies, she created and led a psycho-educational support group for teachers that focused on using CBT and Mindfulness to achieve goals such as regaining control, empowerment, balance, and support.
In her free time, Sarah prioritizes spending quality time with her partner and two kids. They enjoy being outside, going on long walks, and discovering new trails. Aside from spending time with her family, Sarah indulges in her creative hobbies. Photography, sewing, and painting are some of her favorite ways to relax, and she is always open to trying new projects and forms of media.
