“The decision to reach out and begin therapy can be difficult, but is often the powerful first step in the process of understanding and accepting yourself.”
Shannon believes that counseling is a deeply beneficial and rewarding endeavor, which can aid in cultivating a more healthy, successful, and fulfilling life. It takes immense courage and vulnerability to deeply unpack inner struggles, and it requires a collaborative effort on the part of both the therapist and the client. Shannon’s collaborative approach is based on transparency, curiosity, compassion, and trust.
Shannon strives to create a warm, comfortable, judgement-free environment, which allows clients to explore safely and gain insight into their own lives. Shannon prioritizes learning about you as a unique individual and caters her approach to suit your specific needs. With her, clients will explore their values, attachment styles, culture, relationship histories, and how those factors affect their current thought/behavior patterns. Gaining a rich understanding of oneself is often the first step in healing and growth.
Shannon believes that relationships are pivotal to building a healthy and rewarding life. Above all, Shannon believes the most important relationship in every person’s life is the one they have with themselves. Exploring and improving clients’ self-compassion and self-esteem is a major focus in her work. Through her training at a university campus, she has experience working with clients going through large-scale life transitions. She has excelled in helping clients work through questions of identity, professional uncertainty, life decisions, anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, and self-doubt. She also has an affinity for working with individuals feeling pressured by society’s expectations of femininity.
She has a passion for working with people struggling with relational issues- including communication skills, intimacy struggles, sex and sexuality, kink and non-traditional relationships, familial strains, trauma, and coping with symptoms of depression and/or anxiety.
Shannon takes a strengths-based approach which integrates a Psychodynamic lens, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) as well as mindfulness techniques. With couples she utilizes Gottman and Emotionally Focused Therapy. Her approach is sex-positive, inclusive, and culturally sensitive. She believes in a collaborative process in which the client is the expert of their own lives.
